I was out in the rain the other day and the wind was picking up but I had no fear, the GustBuster was here. I could feel the wind tugging at it but you could tell the wind was no match, especially with the J handle. The handle and the tip of the Umbrella scratch pretty easy so be careful but other than that, it's an awesome umbrella. I'll recommend it to anyone.

I think clear umbrellas are much safer (and more fun) than regular opaque versions, so I always seek them out, especially for my preschol-aged sons. I was surprised at how sturdy these were when they arrived -- they withstand some wear and tear. And they have the round-tipped ends rather than the little daggers. Great for kids!

For a premium $40 umbrella that is supposed to withstand the forces of nature, I was disappointed by this.

I've had the umbrella for less than a year and the hook to trap the umbrella closed no longer works. Now, to keep the umbrella closed I need to manually hold it with my hands. This makes it extremely inconvenient and difficult to use. Reading through other reviews, it's clear that many other have had this same issue with the hook. BIG red flag in my book.

When I called to address the issue, similar to others, I've had a poor experience with their "lifetime warranty." I'd have to ship it back to them (which is perfectly fine), but I'd also have to pay them $10 for their trouble. With a total cost of ~$20 to me, what kind of lifetime guarantee is that? I can easily buy another umbrella for that price. The policy makes NO sense on manufacturer issues like this. On top of it, customer service was not very friendly nor accomodating in dealing with this issue.

This is an outstanding umbrella, and it works as advertised in the often windy rain of Seattle. I do wish I would have bought the smaller one though for more money. This thing is huge! I'm not a big guy, but I feel like I'm walking around with a parachute! I think I got some lift one time when it was super windy. I'm not a big guy, so I find I am only using this when I know it's a severe storm on the way. Don't take this as a knock on the product itself though. It's a great, ginormous blue umbrella.

Hello all:

I read a number of positive reviews for this (including one by [...]) piece. When mine was delivered, I was happy it was raining that evening. It came -very- close to flipping inside out its first time out. I used it on a later, even windier night, and it flipped 4 times in 20 minutes. It's easy enough to bring back to normal, but certainly not what I expected.

The umbrella is sturdy enough and seems generally well-made. The opening and closing mechanism work well, and the umbrella's spars and cloth are fine. This is a good umbrella - I just wonder whether it is worth $[...]. It's also likely not the best choice for very windy environments.

Overall nice product. My son, 6 years old, loves the umbrella and is able to open and close it easily. The only issue we had was the material developed holes up by the stem of the umbrella rather quickly. We had the umbrella for 3 months or so and we have already needed to replace it. The holes I would say were not from misuse rather material fatigue. As I said we have replaced it and we did replace it with the same umbrella. No holes yet.

I bought this umbrella to replace a similar one that finally bit the dust.
We haven't had this ShedRain long enough, yet, to make a comment about durability. However, it appears
to be of good quality and is serving us well, thus far. The only minor demurrer is it takes a bit of

This is a great umbrella. It's affordable, opens and closes easily (and on its own, of course), and it isn't flimsy like the super cheap umbrellas. I no longer have to worry about my umbrella flipping inside out from the wind or suddenly collapsing on me. My only issue with this umbrella is that it's a little too long to fit easily in my purse (which is what I would call a medium-sized purse), but I guess I can only get so much out of one product!

Arrived well-packed and promptly. Appeared initially to be an attractive, sturdy product. However, the release button soon fell off. Then the closer clasp went into terminal failure, meaning it tends to pop back open unless it is closed really carefully with both hands. Frankly, these are attributes I would expect of cheap box store merchandise. In constrast, I found a few old (30-40 years) umbrellas, when I was emptying my in-law's home that were apparently received as gifts and left there for me to pillage. They have not failed to function. Unless you have the personal allowance of my congressman, I would suggest you search auctions and even antique shops for similar older quality made in American products which can still provide you years of service.

Last year I ordered this umbrella from Amazon - I like the size and like the fact it shouldn't turn inside out in the wind. However the automatic feature didn't work and when I closed the umbrella it wouldn't latch closed (then would spring back open). They come with a lifetime warranty so I contacted the company and they sent me a Return Authorization number. I spent $20 to FedEx it to them for repair or replacement then heard nothing for a month. To follow up I called them and they (a) had no idea where it was(they showed it came in but had no idea after that) and (b) couldn't send me a new black one for THREE MORE MONTHS! What the heck? What a way to run a business! I'd use my other pricey collapsible gust buster but it is manual and too much to deal with in Manhattan rain, getting in and out of cabs, etc. For the price I paid I'd have been better off buying (then replacing as needed) Totes automatic collapsing umbrellas. The Gustbuster automatics are good in theory, but pricey and paired with lousy execution and worse customer service.

BTW three months came and went and still no replacement (during the rainiest season), requiring two more calls. In order to get something - anything - I had to settle for a green automatic umbrella which I don't like.

Also, and this is a personal preference matter, I don't love the curved handle . . .
